Find the collection day for your address
Council’s household waste service page provides an address-based collection calendar and a downloadable 12-month version. Check your own street address rather than copying a neighbour’s old schedule. Save the calendar somewhere everyone in the household can find it.
Newly built home or missing bins?
The property owner must order new bins through Council. If you rent, ask your property manager or landlord to arrange the request. Before moving day, check whether bins are already at the property and whether a new service has been requested. Keep the request reference with your moving paperwork so you can follow up the same enquiry.
Know the three waste streams
Council describes general waste with a red lid, recycling with a yellow lid and garden organics with a green lid. Its garden organics guidance explains the GO service, including fortnightly collection and different arrangements for some multi-unit properties. Do not assume every dwelling has the same service.
Use the current Council instructions to check an unfamiliar item before placing it in a bin. In particular, the name “garden organics” should not be treated as permission to add every kind of organic household waste. Check the accepted-material list first.
Missed collection or damaged bin
Use the missed-collection and repair options on Council’s household service page. Have the property address, bin type and collection date ready. Council notes that excess weight can prevent a collection; check the service guidance before reporting the problem.

- Locate the bins and check their condition.
- Confirm the address on the collection calendar.
- Ask who is handling any outstanding bin request.
- Keep Council’s service page and your request reference handy.
