A name with strength for South Ripley’s new park
Bandarra Park connects a new recreation space with local language and culture.
Ipswich City Council announced in May 2026 that a recreation park on Lucas Drive, South Ripley, would be named Bandarra Park. Council says Bandarra means “strong” in Yagarbul.
The name followed consultation with Yuggera Ugarapul People members at a Ripley Valley Cultural Collaborative meeting. Council described the park as a space for recreation and physical activity, including fitness equipment.
At the time of the announcement, the park in Providence Estate was under construction, with a future handover to Council planned. That announcement does not establish that the park is now open.
